Can I mix two different brands of oil paint?

I have several tubes of the The Art Store brand oils from Dick Blick Art supplies. I was reading that they are a student level oil paint. If i end up buying a few colors of different brands like Winsor and Newton will they still work well together? Also- how long does it take for an oil painting to dry thoroughly to the touch? Can I mix two different brands of oil paint?
No problem mixing them as long as they are both oil based, and as far as how long does it take to dry depends on how thick you put it on . Remember that oils dry from the outside in, and the heavier you put it on the longer it takes to dry.A normal oil painting might take about 2 to 3 weeks to dry, but even then if you scraped the surface with a knife it still may be wet underneath..Can I mix two different brands of oil paint?
Yes, mix away.

Ideally, of course, you would use all the same brand...but let's face it, in olden times, they mixed their own paint. It's in the hands that do the work, not the medium.

Oil paintings can take hours or days to dry depending on the amount of paint and how thick you applied it. I would check on your work frequently to determine how long it needs to dry...better to wait a longer amount of time than too little...as the more you pile on, the ';muddier'; it will look.

Have fun creating!
