I am doing research on good starting paints and brushes. I will be attending college for art and would like a ';head start'; before being thrown into the world of painting, so any suggestions would be great!
Thanks,
Allie BWhat's the best brand of Acrylic paint and Natural brushes for a moderate price?
You don't say what kind of acrylic paints you want - tube or liquid? Winsor and Newton and Liquitex paint are very good. There are many good brands. If you're in college, many art stores will give you a discount with your student I.D. The art stores generally have knowledgeable staff to help guide you in your purchases, too.
At Christmastime, many art and the hobby stores will be selling kits from the big manufacturers. These are almost always a great deal. Look for one with lots of basic colors (red, blue, yellow, black, white). You may need to get a separate tube of white, it's used a lot.
You're going to get what you pay for with brushes or paints. You can use Folk Art acrylic paints in 2oz. jars, and their brushes. There isn't anything wrong with these, don't get me wrong. They're generally used for decorative painters, however.
If you really have to go cheap, go to a hobby store like Michael's or Hobby Lobby. They run frequent sales on paints and brushes. What's the best brand of Acrylic paint and Natural brushes for a moderate price?
for paint, Utrecht and they make brushes as well. There website is Utrecht.com , and they have the best materials for a great price
This is actually the brand all my professors ';require'; for my art classes, because it is been tested for over 50 years and it is the standard best.
also pearl paints is good source, the website is pearlpaints.com ( i think, try google)
I think you can get better prices and far wider selection at on-line stores. Any hog bristle brush will be good for a natural brush. Softer natural hair brushes are quite expensive. Great synthetic brushes can purchased reasonably and would be good for acrylics. Cheap Joe's.com has really good artist brushes at great prices as well as paints. His brand is hard to beat for quality and price. Jerry's and Blick are other good sites. Search art supplies on line.
