Food safe ceramic paint?? Where can I get and what brands are available?

Please post only if you know for a fact that the paint you are talking about is indeed FOOD SAFE and recommended for direct contact with food. Also if you can tell me where I can get some. I don't care if you have to bake it. Just as long as food can come in direct contact with it and you can eat off it. I plan on decorating ceramic plates.Food safe ceramic paint?? I have used some glass paints before (I purchased them at either a regular craft store, or an Art supply store) and was curious about the ';official'; answer, so I emailed the company. Here is the response:

PEBEO manufacturers a great number of paint lines . . .

You can use Vitrea 160 glass paint or the Porcelaine 150 china paint

Regardless, the answer is the same for both lines of paint.

For the food contact issue:

The paints are water based and non-toxic paints.

Inadvertent contact with food or drink is not a health hazard.

THE PAINT CONTAINS NO LEAD OR CADMIUM, ONLY NON-TOXIC MATERIALS!

For use on a dinner plate, it is recommended that you paint around the perimeter of a dinner plate.

If you paint the center of the plate, a steak knife (or other utensil), you could

could damage your design. If a painted design becomes damaged by a sharp

object, rough edges may be left on the surface. If the plate is not cleaned

properly food bacteria could adhere to these rough edges.

Instead, use the painted plate for serving cakes, candies, sandwiches, etc.

Alternatively, it is always an option to paint the opposite side of a plate if it is a glass plate, by using reverse painting techniques. This produces very beautiful finished results!

Hopefully i have answered your question properly . . . I think that you will enjoy working with either paint line.

Thank you again for your question,

Best Regards,
