Im looking for a color called peach taffy but i need to get it at home depot and i found it by a brand thats at lowes. would that same color have a different name with different brands of paint?DO the different brands of paint name there colors different or are all the colors the same?
Take a sample of the paint you like to wherever you want to buy it and they have a computer system that can match it very closely to their own paint.DO the different brands of paint name there colors different or are all the colors the same?
There is not a generic ';name = color'; standard used by the various paint companies.
For instance, a ';peach taffy'; made Behr (or whomever) at Home Depot can (and most likely will) be totally different from a ';peach taffy'; (if you even find the exact name) made by another manufacturer.
Bring a dried sample of the paint color in to another paint manufacturer's store and have them match the color (forget about the name - you want that same color) if you decide you must use a different brand.
Now comes the tricky part. Even if another paint manufacturer matches the color - the sheen of their paint may not match exactly and the color will look a little different at various angles.
Rule: Use the same manufacturer for additional paint as you used for the original paint.
If you have not started or bought any paint yet - then, if you want a ';peach taffy'; from Lowes , you will need to go to Lowes and get their ';peach taffy'; color sample chip and bring it to Home Depot and have them match it.
If you can't get to Lowes (maybe you saw the color in a magazine and there are no Lowes stores in your area) it is worth noting that many paint manufacturers have color formulas on file to match their competitors colors. So you can go to Home Depot and ask ';Do you have a color match for Lowes ';peach taffy';?'; ( you will probably need to be more specific than ';Lowes'; - what specific brand at Lowes - Valspar? etc... ) If so, your good. Have them tint one gallon (or better yet, one quart) first to verify the color match, before proceeding on to the full quantity needed for the job.
Bringing in the actual paint chip sample will ensure a better color match as you will sometimes come across a cross matched formula that isn't a good match to the real color you were hoping for.
Hope this helps
I agree with the person above me... and I wanted to add, just keep in mind- they will be able to match the colors closely, but not to an exact match. You could have Home Depot or whoever make two cans of the same color paint, and it's never going to be an exact match... very close, but not exact. Most people would not be able to tell the difference. Just thought I would add that. Good luck!
Different brands have different names. The peach taffy at lowes is pobably different from the peach taffy at home depot.
Take a sample with you to match. Or if you have the old paint can with the mixing codes still on the lid, then take that with you.
